Little Champs 1 Classes
Age-appropriate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for early elementary kids — discipline, focus, and the first real techniques.
Ages 5-6
Little Champs 1 at Gracie Barra Boynton Beach is the program for children ages five and six who are ready for structured Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction. This is the first level in the school's kids program where children begin learning real grappling technique — not just games and movement, but actual BJJ concepts broken down into steps that a five- or six-year-old can understand, drill, and remember.
The Gracie Barra kids curriculum at this level covers fundamental takedowns, basic ground positions, beginning escapes from the bottom, and the first submissions that are age-appropriate and safe for partner practice. Every technique is introduced with a clear demonstration, drilled repeatedly with a partner under coaching supervision, and reviewed across multiple classes to build retention. Children are not expected to execute techniques perfectly — they are expected to try correctly and accept coaching feedback, which is itself a crucial developmental skill.
Belt and stripe progression in Little Champs 1 is tied to demonstrated technical knowledge, not just attendance. A coach evaluates whether a child can perform the material for the next stripe before it is awarded. This teaches children a lesson that extends far beyond martial arts: that advancement is earned through effort and demonstrated competency, not through the passage of time.
Parents consistently report that the changes they see at home mirror the structure of the classes. Children in Little Champs 1 become better at listening to directions, managing frustration, and staying focused on a task. These are not side effects of the training — they are central goals of the Gracie Barra kids curriculum. Call (561) 739-8934 to schedule your child's free trial.
